Trench Group is a world leader in power engineering and the design of specialised high voltage electrical products serving utility and industrial customers around the globe.

The Trench story

Trench Group has always been a front runner in all three fields of the business, Bushings, Coils and Instrument Transformers. Emil Haefely laid the foundation for the Trench Bushings business in 1937 while Tony Trench, the founder of the Trench Group, developed the first environmentally friendly Air Core Reactor in the early 1960s.

Today, Trench Group specialises in the manufacturing of high-voltage grid components sold under the brands Trench and HSP. The business is a global leader in its markets, with 2.400 employees and nine factory locations across the globe including Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, China, France, Germany, and Italy.

Why Triton invested

Trench Group is ideally positioned to enable and benefit from the Energy Transition which constitutes a key investment theme for Triton. The company has a differentiated competitive positioning in the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) component market, underscored by its deep technical know-how, a best-in-class product portfolio, its leading market positioning across all three segments and the long-standing and diversified relationship with blue chip customers.

Trench Group is at the heart of Triton’s investment focus to acquire market leading companies with high growth potential, organically and through add-on acquisitions, and a technological edge.

The transformation journey

Triton will support the management and employees on their journey to grow the business and to expand its market leadership. Triton provides not only capital, but also a strong understanding and expertise of high voltage electrical equipment businesses based on previous experience and investments in the sector and have proven to be a good new home for corporate carve-outs.
