Uber acquires Dantaxi from Triton to create the leading mobility platform in Denmark

28.05.2025

The acquisition unites Denmark’s most popular taxi company with global ride-hailing leader, expanding Uber’s reach to 75 out of 98 municipalities.

Copenhagen (Denmark), 28 May 2025 - Uber Technologies, Inc. today announced its acquisition of Dantaxi, Denmark’s largest taxi company, from private equity firm Triton. The deal will create the most widely-available on-demand mobility platform in Denmark, connecting riders with over 3,500 professional drivers in 75 out of 98 municipalities nationwide.

This acquisition underscores Uber’s long-term commitment to improving urban mobility in Denmark, uniting its industry-leading technology with Dantaxi’s trusted local service. It follows Uber’s successful launch in Copenhagen earlier this year, and marks a significant step forward in making on-demand mobility accessible across the country.

Dantaxi was acquired by Triton in December 2018 and since that time has been transformed into a clear market leader in Denmark’s mobility sector, with ca. 1,900 connected vehicles, nationwide coverage and strong ESG credentials.

Over the coming weeks and months, riders across the country will be able to use the Uber app to request safer, more reliable, and increasingly electric rides at the press of a button-helping reduce private car usage and making better connected places to live.

Users will benefit from all of Uber’s most popular features, including upfront fares and driver information, the ability to share ETAs with loved ones, and in-app emergency assistance--whether they’re traveling from downtown Copenhagen or a small town. Importantly, trips will be priced in accordance with Denmark’s regulated taxi fares and shown in the Uber app before a rider requests a trip.

While Dantaxi will continue to operate its popular local taxi services, its extensive network of professional drivers will now be seamlessly integrated onto Uber’s platform. Dantaxi drivers will retain their current agreements and benefit from access to Uber’s dispatch technology, demand generation, and advanced safety features.

Maurits Schönfeld, General Manager Northern Europe at Uber, said: "This acquisition marks a major investment in the future of Danish mobility. By combining Uber’s world-class technology with Dantaxi’s trusted local taxi service, we aim to make everyday travel more accessible, sustainable, and convenient across Denmark. With over 3500 drivers and operations in 75 out of 98 municipalities, this deal will create the most widely available mobility platform in the country.”

Carsten Aastrup, CEO of Dantaxi, said: "Joining forces with Uber opens up an exciting new chapter for Dantaxi. We share a common vision for providing sustainable, high-quality transport and together we can deliver an even better experience for riders and greater opportunities for drivers across Denmark. We thank Triton for all their support and are excited about the journey ahead. We remain committed to operating our much needed local taxi services, supporting our drivers and staying true to our Danish roots.”

Daniel Björklund, Investment Advisory Professional, Triton, said: “Dantaxi has gone from strength to strength under Triton’s ownership, driven by a focus on providing a quality service for both consumers and drivers. With Uber’s support the company is well-placed to continue its impressive growth, provide greater access to transport for consumers, and give drivers the benefit of an innovative global platform. It has been a pleasure to work with the Dantaxi team, we look forward to following their continued journey under Uber’s ownership.”

Driving Denmark towards a greener, more accessible future

Uber and Dantaxi share a commitment to an all electric future in Denmark. Dantaxi’s existing electric fleet and Uber’s ambition to operate a zero-emission platform in Europe by 2030 will combine to accelerate Denmark's transition to greener transport. Both companies are also dedicated to accessible transportation, ensuring the continued availability of services like wheelchair-accessible vehicles across numerous Danish cities.

Fully licensed and compliant on-demand mobility

The acquisition is fully aligned with Danish taxi regulations. Dantaxi remains the licensed taxi operator, ensuring continuity and compliance, while Uber acts as a technology partner enhancing access and convenience for all users. Uber's investment demonstrates long-term confidence in Denmark’s mobility sector, and in Dantaxi's strong network of professional drivers and local leadership.
